US launches fresh strikes after deadly attack on American troops

Published on: July 19, 2026 12:14 PM

The United States has launched a new wave of airstrikes against Iran after two American service members were killed and another was reported missing following an attack in Jordan. US Central Command said the operation aims to punish the forces responsible while reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The incident marks the first reported American military fatalities caused by Iranian fire since March.

Moreover, US Central Command stated that the strikes specifically target Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps positions linked to the attack on American troops. Military officials said the operation is intended to weaken Iran’s military capabilities and prevent further threats to regional security and international shipping routes. The latest escalation reflects growing tensions between Washington and Tehran after months of repeated military exchanges.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump described the deaths of the American service members as a deeply tragic loss while expressing sympathy for their families. Speaking during an interview, he said serving the country carries great sacrifice and acknowledged the seriousness of the incident. However, he had not issued a formal public statement regarding the latest casualties at the time of the interview.

Furthermore, former Iranian deputy oil minister Asghar Ebrahimi-Asl claimed that the United States is expanding military preparations by strengthening bases in several Gulf countries and recruiting foreign personnel. He alleged that Washington could be planning a future ground operation targeting areas along Iran’s southern coastline after the summer, although these claims have not been independently verified.

At the same time, political debate in the United States has intensified following the latest developments. President Trump defended his administration’s military strategy after facing criticism from Democratic leaders, arguing that casualties have occurred during previous American conflicts and describing Iran’s actions as evidence of the growing threat posed by Tehran. The renewed confrontation has increased concerns about regional stability and the possibility of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
