SC reserves verdict on NA-125 rigging case

Published on: March 20, 2018 2:01 PM

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Monday reserved its verdict on Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique’s appeal filed against NA-125 rigging case.

The court after nineteen hearings on the defendant’s appeal against the case withheld its verdict. Saad Rafique’s counsel argued that the Returning Officer hadn’t receive any objection regarding the changes of polling scheme and the prosecutor had failed to present any evident proof to back their claims of rigging in the 2013 general elections.

Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and contender Hamid Khan had filed a petition requesting the change of polling staff, adding that the defence counsel had made no objection regarding the alleged misplacement of 24 Form-15s to the election tribunal prior to the elections.

Hamid Khan had challenged Saad Rafique’s victory in NA-125 in 2013 elections, accusing him of rigging the elections. Previously, the election tribunal had ordered a re-election for the constituency NA-125.
