ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday dismissed another petition of contempt of court against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique. A three-member bench under the supervision of Chief Justice Saqib Nisar heard the petition filed by Shiekh Ahsan-ud-Din accusing Nawaz of degrading the Supreme Court in his homecoming political march after he was ousted from the premiership. Nisar responded to the plaintiff’s given evidence, stating it political in nature. He also dismissed the petition filed against Saad Rafique for contemptuous remarks, stating that the court was overlooking numerous things. The SC earlier had discharged contempt cases against Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Nawaz’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar. Nisar upon the plaintiff’s evidence against Nawaz, detailing use of inappropriate words against the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) stated that the remarks did not target the supreme judiciary. He added that the court had a record of Sharif’s contemptuous remarks, which will be catered to when the time comes. Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared the filed petitions against Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for anti-judiciary speeches as permissible. Justice Amir Farooq heard the plea filed by Adnan Iqbal stating that the Sharifs were provoking anarchy against the courts, urging that an investigation be launched to probe into the contemptuous remarks. The court also disposed of contempt petitions filed against Federal Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz, former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan.
