Sir: In any modern society, electricians have a very important role to play. In the contemporary era, life comes to a halt when an area or household suffers from an electricity related malfunction. Hence we are all dependent on electricians to keep our lives on track. Unfortunately, here in this country the lives of electricians are not valued. Many of them work without any basic safety equipment, such as gloves. I am not just referring to private electricians who fix household electricity fixtures and deal with other domestic problems. I am also referring to WAPDA employees who work on high voltage electricity cables who work on the national grid. Often one can see them climbing tall electricity poles on rickety ladders, without helmets, handling cables with their bare hands. This is a shameful state of affairs. The authorities must provide electricians with all the safety equipment they require. It is likely that a large number of them have died or suffered grievous injury because they don’t have basic safety apparatus. SOODA AKRAM Makran Published in Daily Times, March 14th 2018.
