LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday welcomed Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s offer to hold peace talks with the Taliban. Speaking to Afghanistan Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal on telephone, Khan lauded Ghani’s offer and said that a resolution to Afghan crisis is only possible through peace talks. Khan added that a peaceful Afghanistan is in the greater benefit of Pakistan and the entire region and that efforts should be made on every level to ensure peace. He also requested Zakhilwal to forward his best wishes to President Ghani. The Afghan dignitary expressed gratitude to Khan’s good wishes and said that the government of Afghanistan appreciates the PTI chief’s gesture. Ghani on Wednesday unveiled a plan to open peace talks with the Taliban, including eventually recognising them as a political party, days after the militants called for direct negotiations with the US.
