The last time classical dance was presented in an appreciable manner was in Mehreen Jabbbar’s telefilm ‘Farar’. Today, after so many years, the director Farrukh Faiz incorporates a tablo performed by the new sensation Almas Fidai in the promotional trailer of ‘Dhund’. ‘Dhund’ is an upcoming mystery series to be released tomorrow (Saturday) by channel TV One. It has been penned by the prolific writer Syed Muhammad Ahmed who started off his writing career with a mystery series as well, and is now again presenting it after about two decades. In the teaser comprising of the soundtrack of the series, Almas Fidai is seen performing a classical dance in an unlit room. The only light visible is that coming through a latticed window. The expressions on the performer’s face are distorted, evincing worry and gloom, which tells that the stories in the series will have the characters all baffled owing to the mysterious circumstances they will encounter. The initial short trailers having greats like Sania Saeed, Marina Khan and Saba Hameed had already caught a lot of attention, but the video of the OST, with its tincture of classical dance has captivated even a larger audience including admirers of art and music who demand something off the beaten path. Fidai is a highly talented young actress who won the hearts of all of us with her magnificent performances in ‘Coke Kahani’, ‘Teri Meri Jori’ and ‘Tamana Ki Tamana’. This time, she has surprised us by exhibiting another talent of hers, and telling us beforehand that ‘Dhund’ is going to be a piece of art. Published in Daily Times, July 14th , 2017.
