LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday destroyed vegetable cultivated on 540 kanals with industrial waste and sewerage water during a crackdown across the province. According to details, sewerage water treated vegetables were cultivated on the total area of 67.5 Acre land in six divisions of Punjab. Breakdown the statistics, sewerage water treated vegetables cultivated on the area of 90 Kanals in Lahore, 78 Kanals in Faisalabad, 144 Kanals in Sahiwal and Multan divisions along with 202 Kanals in Sargodha and Gujranwala. Additional Director General (ADG) Operations Rafia Haider said that on the directions of PFA Director General Noor Ul Amin Mengal, our food safety teams under the supervision of Food Safety Officers have crackdown carried out against waste water irrigated vegetables crops throughout Punjab. Rafia said that PFA teams have ploughed tractors in Band Road and Thokar Niaz Baig areas. While commenting on drive against poisonous vegetables said that PFA discarded chemical contaminated vegetable crops of Garlic, Spinach, Beetroot, Spinach, Cabbage and Fenugreek by ploughing tractor.
