Main accused in Kohat murder case flees country

Published on: January 29, 2018 8:17 PM

KOHAT: Mujahidullah Afridi, the main accused in the murder of a medical student, Aasma Rani, has fled to Saudi Arabia, said police sources on Monday.

Rani, an MBBS student at Abbottabad Medical College, was shot thrice by the accused, Mujahidullah, on Saturday for rejecting a marriage proposal, said the victims family.

The victim also identified Mujahidullah as her murderer to the police before she succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The accused fled the country through Benazir Bhutto International Airport as soon as the incident happened, said the police.

Aasma’s father has said that if justice is not served, he will come out onto the streets and protest. He also alleged Mujahidullah of being involved in various other criminal activities.

“They have not caught the criminals. I am a poor man but will come out onto the streets and protest. He (Mujahidullah) has also committed other crimes,” Aasma’s father said.

Mujahidullah, who is a relative of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) district president Aftab Alam, waited for the victim outside her house along with his brother Sadiqullah Afridi, and shot her thrice as soon as she stepped out of a rickshaw, claimed victim’s family.

Alam, in a video message earlier today, has condemned the murder and assured that justice would be served.

Earlier today, Inspector-General (IG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Salauddin Mehsud ordered an inquiry committee to investigate murder of a medical college student, Aasma Rani.

KP police had also conducted raids in various locations of the district to arrest the accused, while District Police Officer (DPO) Abad Marwat has confirmed that the case is being investigated thoroughly and that accused would soon be arrest.
