Imran terms Rao Anwar ‘murderer in police’s uniform’

Published on: January 28, 2018 5:47 PM

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday that Naqeebullah Mehsud was innocent, while he also alleged SSP Rao Anwar of unlawfully killing the 27-year-old.

Talking to the media after meeting members of the Mehsud tribe, Khan called Rao Anwar a ‘murderer in police’s uniform’ while also alleging the police of committing atrocities against Pakhtuns in the city.

“An innocent youth (Naqeebullah) was gunned down in Karachi, I have been informed before that police is tormenting Pakhtuns in the area,” said Imran.

Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday has given a three-day deadline to the Inspector General of Police in Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja to arrest the former Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar.

While hearing the suo motu case regarding the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud in an alleged fake encounter by the former SSP Malir, Cheif Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar inquired from the IG Sindh about the arrest of Rao Anwar.

The CJP directed the Interior Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority to submit travel details of Rao Anwar’s suspected escape from Pakistan.

The police have yet to arrest the Malir SSP, despite the registration of a murder case against him by Naqeebullah’s father.
