SC orders formation of new JIT to investigate claims regarding Zainab’s murderer

Published on: January 28, 2018 9:51 AM

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) has resumed hearing the Zainab rape-murder suo motu case at its Lahore registry this morning.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, is hearing the case with particular reference to some specific details, revealed by anchorperson Dr Shahid Masood in his TV show.

The anchorperson had pointed out that Imran Ali, the accused in Zainab murder case, allegedly had 37 bank accounts besides a network. however, the Punjab government had denied the claims.

During the hearing, a video of the anchorperson’s media talk outside the apex court on January 25 was played in court.

CJP Nisar asked Shahid to present the evidence of the 37 bank accounts but Shahid could not give any satisfactory answer reportedly.

The apex court then dissolved the current JIT, and ordered for the formation of a new one under the leadership of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officer.

The court also barred Zainab’s parents from talking to media.

In the previous hearing of the case on Thursday, Shahid submitted the list of the bank accounts and the names of the ministers allegedly supporting the murderer and rapist Imran.

Several other media persons, including Hameed Haroon, Shakil-ur-Rehman, Ibn Abdur Rehman, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shani, Kamran Khan, Hamid Mir, Fahad Hussain, Kashif Abbasi, Mian Amir Mahmood, Sarmad Ali and Zia Shahid, have been summoned.

Moreover, Punjab’s advocate general Asma Hamid, Inspector General (IG) Jails and head of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency(PFSA) have also been summoned.
