KARACHI: According to a report submitted by Sindh Police in Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Friday, former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar has been involved in 444 encounters over a span of 7 years.
From July 25, 2011, to January 19, 2018, cases of 745 police encounters have been registered, in which 192 of the encounters killed a total of 444 accused, said the report.
The report also mentions that 891 accused have been arrested. The data, however, is expected to be much higher since exact numbers from several months during the 7-year time period have not been recorded, the report added.
Probing committee submits report to SC
Earlier today, the inquiry committee investigating Naqeebullah Mehsud’s alleged encounter by former SSP on Friday presented its report to the SC.
The probing unit, headed by Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, said in its 15-page document that Naqeebullah was nabbed along with two others from Sohrab Goth on January 13.
The other two, who were also inquired by the committee, were set free after allegedly bribing the police officials, the report said.
Sindh Police also sent letters to IG Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) asking for assistance in the arrest of former SSP Rao Anwar after tracing his location in the areas.
On Tuesday, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) foiled the former SSP’s attempt to leave the country from Benazir International Airport in the nation’s capital, while the officials also said that the Rao Anwar has not returned to Karachi yet.
Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.
