Just a few days after #JusticeForZainab started circulating the horrors and emotions of lives around the country, female celebrities in Pakistan took center stage to share their own stories and open up regarding the grave issue of child abuse on social media platforms.
In a Twitter post, renowned Pakistani actress and activist Nadia Jamil disclosed that she was only four years old when she first suffered the crime of sexual abuse.
The actress shared her painful memories in order to increase awareness amongst the populace about the issue of child abuse, of which many still remain unaware. The issue in question, of course, has increasingly gained widespread attention following the brutal rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab from Kasur who’s body was recovered from the trash.
I was 4 the first time I was abused sexually. I was in college when it blew out of proportion.
People tell me not to talk to respect my families honour. Is my families honour packed in my body? I am a proud, strong, loving survivor. No shame on me or my kids. Only pride 4 being me— Nadia Jamil (@NJLahori) January 13, 2018
The strongly worded message by Nadia was a bid by the activist to urge survivors to speak up and not associate confidentiality in this regard with downright honour.
In a series of revelations induced by this tweet, media personality and entrepreneur Frieha Altaf also took to the microblogging platform to share her own painful story.
This is what she claimed:
I was sexually abused by our cook at age 6. My parents took action but everyone remained silent as if it was my shame. At 34 I realised how it had impacted my life.the only shame is keeping SILENT #ChildAbuse #shame #NoMoreChildAbuse #MeToo #JusticeForZainab #HowToStopChildAbuse
