People all around the world are blaming upon the Trump administration for some so called color or race based policies and different types of so called American supremacy thoughts. I am not here to defend Mr. Trump neither making any excuses for or against him as a person. Here I dare to pin point a phenomenon prevailing all around, in almost every democracy of the world. What I believe that they are not going fairly in it as this phenomenon is prevailing in many other countries of the world where, most of the power (the political power) is being controlled by the wealthy/industrial or “Capitalist Elites” running the show. This started since the Ronald Reagan regime when he liberated the economic system and provided a broader platform for the business/ corporate class to control the economy. Let’s recall his liberal economic policies being called as “Reaganomics” which remained quite successful. This Reaganomics phenomenon apparently remained successful until 2006-7 – almost a span of 25 years, after which it showed its real face. (I have to mention two “American Bills” of 1990s – Bill Gates and Bill Clinton, who lifted American economy to an unmatchable height). In the previous paragraph, I have explained the things, which seemed true and obvious. But, no I cannot agree on it so plainly. Now I have to share with you the actual torchbearer of this so called American success, Mr. Alan Greenspan, who remained the top policy maker since the late 1960s to the date of his retirement on Jan 31, 2006. Mr. Alan Greenspan is widely considered the prime institution, to arrange for the systematic collapse of Global Financial Crisis “Sub-Prime Crisis” in 2007-08 (most of the American Capitalists considered Mr. Alan Greenspan as an Institution much larger than just an individual) As American Capitalists still love him, so I neither intend to criticize him nor support his policies, but having been a keen follower of finance, explore some of the outcomes. Practically with the exception of some of the friends of humanity (like Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg) who have made huge charities in order to make the systematic process of creating good, out of this so called polluted economic system, things have always have gone the Capitalist way. Even some of my friends consider the 1989 collapse of Russia as a big win for Capitalism, I found it an acceleration of failure for the Capitalist society, the abolition of Glass-Stiegel Act during the Clinton’s regime as highest point in it. I still have some excerpts from “Plutonomy Report” in my mind published by Citi Bank in October 2006, which actually led to the start of Wall Street Movement in 2009. What has the three years of activism in the name of “Wall Street Movement” achieved so far … It died its own death in this process because it was run by the poor (being poorly financed) how could they compete with the Government which was helping the greedy rich through bail-out plans costing over US$ 8.5 trillion of the tax payers money, when the entire global GDP makes hardly US$ 60 trillion. People need to learn from their experiences instead of forgetting the crimes of our Modern leaders. I can name a large number of so called great leaders who robbed their own nations. I have been delivering lectures on many forums, for over the last 8-9 years, trying to convince my people, especially the learned scholars and the student community that the system of the world is being run sophisticatedly on the “Golden Principles of Greed”. In the meantime I have experienced the feelings and troubles faced by the victims of “Sub-Prime Crisis” which was long over as stated by many when a huge funding was given to the few “Banking Giants” but what about the millions of people from the Financial sector which have gone unemployed rather a good percentage as unemployable who were pursuing their career in the Banking Industry. I have sympathies with bright-minded Wall Street Movement activists all around the Globe who thought it as their mission to bring good to the world but could not do anything due to their limited financial resources, and as majority supported them and their cause, but could do nothing. The prime cause of failure of Wall Street Movement proved to be the serious lack of resources to finance it. The experts in Political Economy have given different concepts in the context of such economic systems driven by the Capitalist societies and the styles of governance. Under this scenario they have identified Plutocracy and Oligarchy and its other shapes. “PLUTOCRACY” refers to a government by the rich or the wealthy class in a community gaining special political power through their wealth. On the other hand, OLIGARCHY is such a structure and system of government which allows a “few” people, the right to govern not by its legal but the nature of the structure of norms in governance, they continue to hold this power as their exclusive control over the system of governance. There is not generally any problem with such types of “Governance Structures” as viewed by the communities in general due to their obvious simplicity (rather one of my teachers almost 25 years ago, used to support such people into government, not with any motive but on the plea that they will prove less greedy as they are already having enough of wealth so not expected to be inclined towards this greed). It actually applies to a business structure or corporate environment, not the Government especially political system, because obviously the wealthy class of society, have the ability to buy into power if they intend to. Now who does not want to be the chief guest, or become prominent through power and authority, as it is in the human nature that people want to be noticed, respected for the position they hold. As apparently there is no issue with such types of political systems, the complication actually arises when in a political system, both of plutocracy and oligarchy occurred at the same time i.e. government is occupied by a “few” and “wealthy” people, it will then formed into PLUTARCHY being the worst type of Governance/ political system. Now my friends will ask why, I have issues with this type of system, the answer is simple but difficult to digest. In such a system all bureaucratic structure is under special task to follow the governing privileged class and not for the good of the common citizens in that country. Aristotle once made the same argument about oligarchy and Plutarchy: “When . . . the rulers have great wealth and numerous friends, this sort of family despotism approaches a monarchy; individuals rule and not the law. This is the fourth sort of oligarchy, and is analogous to the last sort of democracy.” Even, it becomes worse than a Kingdom, as under the Kingdom there is no serious challenge to the government and generally people rather feel better knowing that a family has no fear of being dethroned / removed from power thus the factor of greed is much lesser as compared to a situation where the power politics is being manipulated among a few families. Resultantly, they come to power one by one in a sequence to rob the national wealth while the common people remain “die hard followers” of their respective parties or families. A good example is the current situation in Pakistan for over 50 years where people elect only the “electables”. Where Mader-e-Millat lost the elections against electables. Parties are run by “electables” who have the desire and power, to invest in this system for a much larger gain. Even the situation has reached to a point, that these electables get elected whenever they contest from whichever the party. What we ultimately think and end up saying is …”what can we do about it” My question remains: Are we actually focusing the real problem? I believe a BIG NO. what we are doing, is it in the right direction? Some friends from the media are saying that the media is killing every good thing, as it creates long-term memory loss and every other hour the breaking news breaks everything and this way the society gets dis-connected from the institutions of correction and justice, probably they are right as media is also being run by the rich capitalists. Now the sacrosanct cow called the Democracy is not the democracy it actually is Plutocracy or in some easy expression we can call it “Capitalist Democracy”. The extreme shape has been created by through a comparatively noble person (Mr. Barak Obama), as he in spite of good intentions could not defy these forces over his tenor of eight years. Rather he was used by them to finally put on command Mr. Donald Trump, who claims to be representing those forces. I consider it the continuation of the same Capitalist Democracy. The major Problems which occur in such a situation are: a) Vested Interests and Conflict of Interest b) Greed for wealth overpowers almost everything, even the justice system c) Accountability becomes obsolete and powerless rather it serves the vested interests d) Loosened law and order situation challenging the writ of the Government e) Compromises on National strategy and interest for personal motives f) Politics of show-off and points scoring without priority to social interest My humble thought closes here as it is just a food for thoughts for the attention of readers to get connected as my objective for the moment. We will discuss these issues in detail on later days. I have to remind ourselves that “the alternative to a poor system of governance is only the good system of governance”.
