CROWDS AND DELAYS — sometimes there are so many people in the salon that one has to wait for a long time to get his/her turn. And often at times, it takes too long that one has to leave and book an appointment for the next day. Walk-ins, in such situations, do not work best. People have to take appointments ahead of time especially when they are running late for an event/function they have to attend urgently. UNAVAILABILITY OF YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE STYLIST — more often than not, people tend to develop good understanding with a particular beautician who is aware of their problems, understands their psyche and knows how to treat satisfactorily. When this particular beautician is unavailable, everything seems to fall apart as the mental or physical relief, one earnestly looks forward to, loses chances of getting fulfilled. UNHYGIENIC TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT — nothing seems more horrifying and cringe-worthy than seeing a spatula or waxing strips being re-used after a customer has left. Some beauticians do not take care of the fact that even after their proper cleansing; some germaphobe/hygiene conscious customers get extremely uncomfortable with the idea of their application on their skin. In such situations, it is advisable to use brand new tools lest the customers are scared away. NOSEY STAFF AND CLIENTS — as we have mentioned that salon environment wears a friendly and welcoming attire in order for people to socialise and learn about what’s happening next door, sometimes people exploit the spirit of this culture and try to poke their nose despite the other person’s discomfort. Salons usually lose customers because of this too-frank and friendly attitude of the customers or staff. EXCESSIVE CRITICISM BY THE BEAUTICIANS — beauticians, sometimes, say a bit too much about the customer’s physicality, either by saying she/he has too much acne, bad hair, or things that make the customer under-confident about their looks. This may be done either to make the customers stick by and visit more, or just to pocket money in one service. DECEITFUL STRATEGIES FROM THE STAFF — as stated one before, there are other tricks that beauticians play to pocket money from some customers. Like, if the owner of the salon is not around, the other beauticians will take advantage by overcharging the customers. UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE — some beauticians not just behave unprofessionally but their handling is very careless with the customers. It is mainly due to their incompetence. They would either not intently listen to their customers, their needs, or they are just careless about their responsibilities as a beautician. In such careless behaviour, customers often become the victim of their incompetence and have to pay the price. Published in Daily Times, December 17th 2017.
