ISLAMABAD: The Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau approved conducting eight inquiries and two investigations. The Executive Board meeting was chaired by NAB chairman Justice Javed Iqbal at NAB Headquarters and the following decisions were taken. The EBM approved the first inquiry to probe alleged corruption and officers of the civil aviation in the alleged corruption of billions of rupees and misuse of authority in awarding contracts in construction of passenger terminal building and special baggage handling system in the construction of the new Islamabad Airport. After scrutinizing the evidence, the Executive Board approved the Inquiry against 56 illegal public limited companies for squandering billion of rupees of the Punjab government and violation of PPRA rules. The executive board has also accorded approval to conduct an inquiry against the civil aviation for inflicting Rs 500 million losses by selling a PIA plane by the then German CEO of PIA. An inquiry has also been approved against HBL Branch New York USA and HBL Head office due to involvement in money laundering. The bank has recently been fined 225 million dollars for involvement in money laundering by US. The board has approved an inquiry against Irshad Ahmed Memon Chief Engineer Irrigation department Sukkar for inflicting millions of losses to national exchequer. Another inquiry would also be conducted against Dr Parveen Naeem Shah, Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif Uviversity, Khairpur for having assets beyond the resources of her income. The Executive Board also accorded approval to North Sindh Urbon Corp. District Larkana Khairpur. Sindh and others for inflicting 190 million rupees losses to the national exchequer. The Executive Board approved an inquiry against Metro Bus Project, Multan. In this case, it is alleged that millions of govt funds were utilized illegally against PEPRA Rules.
