Iranian army warns US of ‘surprises’ amid rising tensions

Published on: July 16, 2026 7:32 PM

Iran’s army warned the United States of possible military “surprises” if Washington continues attacks on Iranian territory and violates a memorandum of understanding. The warning came amid rising tensions between the two countries. Tehran said further escalation could trigger a stronger response.

Iranian army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said US officials would face unexpected challenges if they continued what he described as aggressive policies. He claimed Iran’s military could respond in ways and locations Washington would not anticipate. The statement was carried by Iranian media.

Akraminia said Iranian vessels were continuing operations from the Strait of Hormuz toward the Indian Ocean. He warned that any threat from the US or its allies would receive an immediate response from Tehran. The remarks came as both sides continued exchanging accusations.

Iran also condemned a reported US strike near a children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the attack forced the emergency evacuation of 211 young patients receiving cancer treatment. He described the incident as a serious violation of humanitarian principles.
