Islamabad: Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday for a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors.

The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and marks Dr Pezeshkian’s second trip to Pakistan since assuming office as Iran’s president.

The Iranian leader will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior government officials. During his stay, he is expected to hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues.

According to official sources, the discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, border security, regional connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides are also expected to explore new opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

In addition to meetings with Pakistan’s top leadership, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The visit comes at a time when Islamabad and Tehran are seeking to further strengthen their longstanding political, economic and cultural ties. Officials from both countries are expected to review progress on existing agreements and discuss future initiatives aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation.

The two sides will also exchange views on regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Issues related to regional peace, stability and economic integration are likely to feature prominently in the talks.

Pakistan and Iran share a long border and maintain close historical, cultural and religious links. Both countries have repeatedly emphasized the importance of cooperation in addressing shared challenges and promoting regional prosperity.

Officials view the visit as an important opportunity to deepen engagement between the neighboring countries and reinforce their commitment to stronger economic and diplomatic relations. The discussions are expected to contribute to efforts aimed at enhancing mutual understanding, expanding trade opportunities and promoting long-term stability across the region.
