According to Jabran Bin Salman President Pakistan Weight Lifting Federation The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) has provisionally selected a squad of six lifters for consideration by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) for the *20th Asian Games Aichi?Nagoya 2026*, following two phases of selection trials held in Lahore.
The PWLF staged preliminary trials at the PU Weightlifting Academy, Chuburji. The trials attracted the country’s leading weightlifters, who competed across their respective bodyweight categories as selectors assessed form, technique and competition readiness.
Following the conclusion of the final trials, the federation submitted the names of the following athletes to the POA on a provisional basis: Talha Talib, Haider Sultan, Furqan Anwar, Hanzala Dastgir Butt, Danish Butt, and Muhammad Ali The PWLF emphasised that these selections are provisional and subject to the POA’s final approval. The POA will review the nominations in line with the athletes’ medal prospects, compliance with *Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)* entry rules and the overall quota available to Pakistan for weightlifting at the Games. The final number of weightlifters to be sent to Aichi?Nagoya will be determined after that review. The federation also underlined that the final team will be confirmed only after all selected athletes successfully clear mandatory anti?doping tests and meet all relevant international anti?doping regulations. PWLF officials reiterated their commitment to transparency and merit in the selection process and said the federation would continue to follow international standards in athlete preparation and administration.
In its announcement, the PWLF congratulated all participants for their performances during the trials and wished the provisional selectees success as they prepare for the next stages of selection and international competition. The federation said it would continue to coordinate with the POA and relevant authorities to finalise entries and ensure that Pakistan’s weightlifters are fully prepared for the Asian Games.
