Israel Must Respect the Peace Process, Attacks on Civilians in Beirut Are Unacceptable: JD Vance

Published on: June 19, 2026 4:21 AM

JD Vance

US Vice President JD Vance has said that the agreement reached with Iran could play a significant role in promoting regional stability and peace. Speaking at a White House press briefing, he stated that the US-Iran agreement has already shown positive results, noting that more than 12 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz in a single night.

Vance said Iran has not attacked any ships so far and is complying with the provision in the memorandum that keeps the Strait of Hormuz open. He added that the 60-day implementation period outlined in the agreement officially began today.

According to the US Vice President, much of Iran’s military capability has been weakened, and Tehran now appears focused on improving its economy. He claimed that the United States had destroyed several Iranian ballistic missile facilities and would continue efforts to prevent Iran from financing regional terrorism.

Vance said the final agreement would address concerns regarding Iran’s missile program and any weapons that could threaten global security. He added that Iran would require substantial financial resources to restart its nuclear program and that decisions regarding sanctions relief would depend on Iran’s future conduct.

The US Vice President also stressed that Israel must respect the peace process and described attacks on civilians in Beirut as unacceptable. He said the US-Iran agreement could help strengthen regional peace and stability, adding that Washington intends to gradually return its military forces in the region to their pre-conflict positions.
