Current account posts $255 million surplus in 11 months of FY26: SBP

Pakistan’s External Current Account recorded a surplus of US$ 252 million during July-May fiscal year 2025-26 compared to a surplus of $ 1,618 million in the first eleven months of previous fiscal year.

The State Bank of Pakistan, in the monthly summary of Balance of Payments issued here on Wednesday, reported that Current Account Balance for the month of May 2026 posted a surplus of $ 459 million as compared to a deficit of $ 276 million in April 2026 and a deficit of $ 44 million in May 2025.

The cumulative balance in trade of goods during July-May FY26 recorded a deficit of $ 30,205 million, according to the provisional figures released by the central bank, as compared to $ 24,374 million deficit in the corresponding period of FY24-25.

The balance on Trade in goods during May 2026 has recorded a deficit of $ 3,318 million as compared to a deficit of $ 3,370 million in April 2026 and $ 3,057 million in May 2025, the data depicted.

Balance on trade of services during July-May FY26 has recorded a deficit of $ 2,003 million as compared to $ 2,632 million deficit of July-May FY25, the data shown, however in May 2026 services’ trade posted a surplus of $ 28 million in comparison to $ 33 million surplus in April 2026 and $ 166 million deficit in May 2025. The overall trade deficit in both goods and services reached at $ 32,208 million in the first 11 months of FY26 in comparison to the deficit of $ 27,006 million during Jul-May FY25. In May 2026, the overall deficit in trade of goods and services was recorded as $ 3,290 million as compared to the deficit of $ 3,337 million in April 2026 and the deficit of $ 3,223 million in May 2025. The Balance on Primary Income recorded a deficit of $ 7,648 million during July-May FY26 against a deficit of $ 8,047 million in the corresponding period of last fiscal year, the SBP data showed.

The inflow of workers’ remittances from overseas during the first eleven months of FY26, has recorded as $ 38,109 million in comparison to $ 34,894 million inflows in corresponding period of FY25. Inflow of remittances in May 2026 was recorded as $ 4,251 million in comparison to $ 3,539 million in April 26 and $ 3,686 million inflows of May 2025.

Meanwhile, the Balance on Secondary Income during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year has recorded a surplus of $ 40,111 million as compared to a surplus of $ 36,671 million during July-May FY25, the SBP data showed.
