Punjab launches motorcycle permit for teenagers

Juvenile Driving Permit Punjab 2026: Rules, Fee & Eligible

The Punjab government has introduced a Juvenile Permit facility that allows teenagers aged 16 to 18 years to legally ride motorcycles, marking a significant step toward promoting road safety and responsible driving among young people.

Launched under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the initiative enables eligible adolescents to obtain a permit before reaching the legal age required for a regular driving licence. Traffic authorities say the scheme is aimed at encouraging compliance with traffic laws while providing young riders with a regulated framework for motorcycle use.

According to officials, applicants between 16 and 18 years of age can apply for the Juvenile Permit after fulfilling the prescribed conditions. The permit fee has been fixed at Rs1,000 for 16-year-old applicants, while individuals aged 17 to 18 years will be charged Rs500.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said permit holders will be subject to specific restrictions, including a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour. The measure has been introduced to enhance safety and reduce the risk of road accidents involving young riders.

Parental or guardian consent is mandatory for obtaining the permit. Applicants are required to appear with a parent or legal guardian and submit necessary documents, including a Smart Card, Form-B, a copy of the parent or guardian’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), and a recent photograph.

Officials believe the initiative will help instill responsible driving habits from an early age while improving awareness of traffic regulations and road safety practices across the province.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has launched an online vehicle ownership transfer service. The facility enables citizens to transfer ownership of cars and motorcycles remotely without visiting excise offices, simplifying the process and improving public access to government services.

Authorities say both initiatives reflect ongoing efforts to modernize transport-related services and promote greater compliance with traffic and vehicle regulations.
