The Supreme Court of Pakistan has approved a 100 per cent increase in the utility allowance for its employees, in a decision aimed at providing financial relief to staff amid rising utility costs.
According to official details, the approval was granted by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, and the revised allowance structure will take effect from July 1, 2026.
Under the new policy, employees in Grades 1 to 6 will now receive Rs12,000 per month, doubling from the previous Rs6,000. Similarly, staff in Grades 7 to 10 will see their allowance increased from Rs8,000 to Rs16,000, while employees in Grades 11 to 15 will now receive Rs20,000 instead of Rs10,000.
For higher grades, the revised structure also includes significant increases. Grade 16 officers will receive Rs24,000, up from Rs12,000. Grade 17 officers will now be entitled to Rs30,000, compared to the earlier Rs15,000.
The allowance for Grade 18 officers has been raised from Rs18,000 to Rs36,000, while Grade 19 officers will now receive Rs42,000 instead of Rs21,000. For senior officials in Grade 20, the monthly utility allowance has increased from Rs24,000 to Rs48,000.
Officers in Grade 21 and above will receive Rs60,000 per month, doubling from the previous Rs30,000 under the revised structure.
The utility allowance is intended to help employees cover essential household expenses, particularly gas and electricity bills, which have increased significantly in recent years due to inflation and rising energy costs.
According to the notification, the additional financial burden resulting from the increase will be managed through the Supreme Court’s approved budget for the fiscal year 2026–27.
Officials said the revision aims to ensure that employees across all grades receive adequate support to manage their basic utility expenses, while maintaining fairness across different pay scales within the institution.
