KP police to form Special Combat Unit against terrorists

Published on: June 18, 2026 12:15 PM

K-P forms first-ever Sniper Squad for precision operations in high risk areas

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have announced the establishment of a Special Combat Unit (SCU), a newly structured strike force designed to carry out intelligence-based targeted operations against terrorists elements across the province.

According to an official statement issued from the office of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, the initiative has been approved by the KP Police Policy Board and formal rules and regulations for the unit have now been finalized. The force will consist of 400 specially selected personnel drawn from the police’s elite units.

Officials said that candidates will undergo strict medical, psychological, and physical screening before induction. Members of the SCU will be exempted from routine policing duties to ensure full focus on high-risk operational assignments.

The unit’s operational framework has been developed in line with international standards, with personnel organized into companies of 45 officers each. These teams will be deployed in sensitive areas of the province for 90-day rotations, conducting joint operations under the supervision of district police officers or Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) commanders.

After completing each deployment cycle, personnel will undergo a mandatory 30-day advanced training program at the Elite Police Training Centre in Nowshera. The training will focus on enhancing combat readiness and incorporating field experience into future operations.

The Inspector General said the formation of the SCU marks a significant milestone in the province’s policing history and reflects a renewed commitment to combating militancy. He added that the unit would be equipped with modern capabilities, including drone technology, sniper training, and hand-to-hand combat skills, to enhance operational effectiveness.

Authorities emphasized that the primary objective of the Special Combat Unit is to eliminate terrorism and ensure the protection of civilian lives and property across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Security analysts say the initiative reflects an evolving strategy in the province’s counterterrorism efforts, focusing on rapid response, specialized training, and intelligence-driven operations to address persistent security challenges.
