Trump warns of bombing if Iran deal fails

Published on: June 17, 2026 6:37 PM

US President Donald Trump has warned that military action against Iran could resume if a final agreement fails to meet American expectations. His remarks highlight ongoing uncertainty surrounding the recently announced memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. The comments are significant for global markets, regional stability, and future diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

Speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during the G7 summit in France, Trump stressed that the current understanding with Iran is not a final agreement. He said the United States could return to military operations if the eventual deal proves unsatisfactory. However, he also described the arrangement as an important step toward reducing tensions.

Trump said the agreement would lead to the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. He added that reports claiming Iran would receive $300 billion in funds under the deal were inaccurate. According to Trump, the United States is not planning investments in Iran under the current framework.

The US president also noted that immediate sanctions relief is not part of the memorandum. He said discussions on easing sanctions would take place at a later stage. Trump argued that the agreement had already helped lower oil prices and prevented broader economic disruption that could have affected countries worldwide.

Meanwhile, President Sisi congratulated Trump on what he described as a breakthrough toward peace in the Middle East. The Egyptian leader expressed hope that negotiations would lead to a comprehensive final agreement. Both leaders also discussed trade cooperation and regional issues, including efforts to address ongoing security challenges.
