A severe rainstorm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has killed seven people and injured 33 others over the past 24 hours. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that roof and wall collapses caused most of the casualties. Authorities have also warned of rising flood risks due to melting glaciers and unstable weather conditions.
According to the PDMA, the incidents occurred in Bannu, Shangla, and Mansehra districts. Among the dead were two children, four men, and one woman. Officials said the injured included men, women, and children, with several in critical condition.
Meanwhile, weather authorities have raised concerns over possible glacial lake outburst floods in northern areas. Rising temperatures and recent rainfall have accelerated glacier melting. As a result, low-lying and mountainous regions face an increased risk of flash flooding.
The PDMA has directed district administrations in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Mansehra to stay on high alert. Authorities have been instructed to monitor vulnerable zones and issue timely warnings. Emergency response teams have also been placed on standby.
Residents have been advised to avoid rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas during the ongoing spell of unstable weather. Officials warned that further rainfall could worsen the situation in the coming days.
