Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (Retd), along with a 3-member delegation, represented Pakistan in the 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) in Macao Special Administrative Region.
The 3-day IIICF is being jointly organized by China International Contractors Association and Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute. Established in 2010, IIICF serves as an important platform to exchange strategic thinking and insights, explore opportunities and seek cooperation for related government authorities, financial institutions, engineering companies, consultants and equipment manufacturers. More than 3000 delegates from over 70 countries, senior executives from Fortune Global 500 companies, senior management representatives from financial institutions, consulting agencies and engineering firms from across the globe are attending the event.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Forum, Chairman WAPDA highlighted avenues and incentives of investments in water and power infrastructure of Pakistan. He said that international community and regional stakeholders must emphasise and invest more on connectivity through shared infrastructure development instead of conflict ridden geo-political contention. Referring to the geo-political importance of Pakistan as well as development portfolio in water and power sectors including Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project and Mohmand Dam, he said that Pakistan’s demographic profile, location and strong relationship with important global players, particularly China, makes it an attractive destination for investment in infrastructure. For stability in region all nation states must adhere to internationally recognised bilateral treaties on shared water resources as the region can ill afford further conflicts, the Chairman added.
