IRGC claims attacks on US-linked military bases in Gulf

Published on: June 10, 2026 11:21 AM

US strikes on Iran

Iranian state media reported on Wednesday that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched attacks targeting US-linked military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions following recent US strikes on Iranian territory.

According to Iranian reports, the IRGC used drones to target Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, a facility that hosts US military personnel. In response, Kuwait’s armed forces announced that air defence systems had been activated to intercept what they described as hostile aerial targets. Authorities also urged residents to follow official safety instructions and remain alert.

Iranian media further claimed that the IRGC carried out a missile strike on the US-operated Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan. Reports alleged that four locations within the facility were targeted, including hangars housing F-35 fighter jets and the base’s command-and-control centre. The operation was reportedly conducted using long-range missiles.

In Bahrain, authorities sounded warning sirens and advised residents to seek shelter as a precautionary measure. Shortly afterward, a media adviser to Bahrain’s king stated that the country’s air defence systems had successfully intercepted and repelled Iranian attacks.

The latest developments come after the IRGC claimed responsibility for drone attacks against the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain earlier in the day. Iranian officials have warned that stronger measures could follow if what they describe as hostile actions against Iran continue.

There was no immediate confirmation from US military officials regarding the reported attacks, and the claims could not be independently verified. Washington has yet to provide a detailed assessment of the incidents.

The exchange follows a period of heightened tensions between the United States and Iran after US forces conducted strikes on targets in southern Iran. Analysts warn that continued military action by either side could further destabilise the region and complicate efforts to preserve an already fragile ceasefire and broader diplomatic negotiations.
