The 2026 Fifa World Cup is set to begin on June 11, with 48 teams competing across Canada, Mexico and the United States in a record expanded format. Analysts and bookmakers are already assessing winning probabilities, focusing on Europe and South America as the strongest regions for lifting the trophy.
Spain and France currently lead the betting odds, making them the top favourites to win the tournament. France brings recent success with a World Cup final appearance in 2022 and a Nations League title, while Spain enters with strong momentum after winning Euro 2024.
Both European giants carry similar winning odds of around +475, reflecting their balanced squads and tournament experience. Meanwhile, traditional powerhouses Argentina, England and Brazil remain close contenders with odds placed at +900, +650 and +850, keeping the competition wide open at the top.

Historically, Brazil remains the most successful nation in World Cup history with five titles, followed by Germany and Italy with four championships each. However, Brazil has struggled to reach the final since 2002, creating a long-standing gap in its modern World Cup performance.
Experts note that only European or South American teams have ever won the tournament in its 96-year history, which narrows the realistic title contenders significantly. Based on historical patterns and player quality, teams like Argentina, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain remain in strongest contention.
Furthermore, the new expanded format introduces 48 teams divided into 12 groups, with top sides and best third-placed teams advancing to a 32-team knockout stage. The tournament will open with Mexico facing South Africa at Estadio Azteca, setting the stage for a highly competitive global football event.
