
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced a local public holiday on June 8 in observance of the annual Urs of the revered Sufi saint Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi.

According to an official notification issued by KMC’s Human Resource Management Department, the holiday will be observed on June 8, corresponding to 22 Zilhaj 1447 AH. The decision was taken following a resolution approved by the Karachi City Council and endorsed by the competent authority.

As part of the announcement, all offices and departments operating under the administrative control of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will remain closed on the designated day. The holiday is intended to facilitate the religious observances and activities associated with the Urs celebrations, which attract large numbers of devotees each year.

However, KMC clarified that departments responsible for essential and emergency services will continue their operations without interruption. These services include critical municipal functions necessary for maintaining public welfare, safety and basic civic facilities across the city.
Officials stated that all concerned departments have been informed about the holiday to ensure smooth implementation of the decision and proper coordination of municipal services during the celebrations.
The shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, located in Karachi, is among the city’s most significant religious and historical sites. The annual Urs commemorates the saint’s spiritual legacy and draws thousands of pilgrims and visitors from different parts of Pakistan.
During the Urs, various religious gatherings, prayers, recitations and spiritual ceremonies are held at the shrine. Authorities also make special arrangements for security, traffic management and public facilitation to accommodate the large influx of devotees.
