Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon described the scheme as a “revolutionary initiative”, saying it is helping women gain greater independence by easing their daily travel challenges.
Under the programme, eligible women receive pink electric scooters along with driving training, helmets and road safety awareness sessions to ensure safe usage. Officials said the scheme is being expanded gradually to multiple cities across Sindh.
The initiative also aligns with the provincial government’s wider transport reforms, which include the introduction of electric buses and the expansion of the Peoples Bus Service network to improve urban connectivity.
Authorities have also cautioned the public against fraudulent messages circulating on social media regarding the scheme. Officials clarified that any claims suggesting registration fees or payment requirements are false.
The government reiterated that the Pink Scooty Scheme is a welfare programme and that scooters are being provided free of cost to eligible beneficiaries selected under official criteria.
Officials say the programme is intended to promote women’s mobility, enhance participation in education and employment, and contribute to environmentally friendly transport solutions through the use of electric vehicles.
