Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Pakistan’s peace mission aimed at regional reconciliation have not failed, but are currently facing difficult conditions amid rising geopolitical tensions.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi during a visit for the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, Araghchi stated that multiple external actors were attempting to disrupt ongoing diplomatic initiatives in the region. Despite these challenges, he emphasised that Pakistan’s peace and mediation efforts were still continuing.

“Pakistan’s mission has not failed yet,” he said, adding that dialogue remains essential for reducing tensions and maintaining regional stability.

Araghchi noted that Iran remains committed to maintaining a ceasefire environment to allow diplomacy a chance to succeed. However, he said inconsistent signals from the United States were creating uncertainty and complicating negotiations, making it difficult for Tehran to assess Washington’s intentions.
The Iranian foreign minister reiterated that Iran does not trust the United States but remains open to talks if they are conducted on the basis of seriousness and fairness.

He also commented on regional maritime security, stating that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for all countries except those Iran considers hostile. Araghchi said vessels passing through the strategic waterway would be required to coordinate with the Iranian Navy.
He further said that Iran and Oman would jointly oversee security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz under a coordinated framework.
On broader regional diplomacy, Araghchi suggested that India, which maintains relations with multiple countries, should clearly define the nature of its relationship with Iran.
He also accused the United States of undermining diplomatic efforts through military actions during negotiation phases, claiming that such steps have weakened trust in the process.

Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s position that its nuclear programme is peaceful and stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.
The remarks came as BRICS foreign ministers met in New Delhi, where divisions among member states prevented a joint statement on Middle East developments.
