JKT inaugurates state-of-the-art computer lab at Govt Islamia College for Women

Published on: May 15, 2026 2:14 AM

Jahangir Khan Tareen inaugurated a modern state-of-the-art computer lab at Government Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road Lahore. The computer lab has been established with the support of the Tareen Education Foundation to provide female students with access to modern IT education and digital learning facilities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by DPI Colleges Punjab Ansar Azhar, Group Director Finance JDW Muhammad Rafiq, Principal Dr. Fauzia Naz, Chief Executive Officer of Tareen Education Foundation Akbar Khan, along with other distinguished guests.

The college currently has more than 5,000 students and over 187 faculty members. Built at an approximate cost of PKR 12 million, the modern computer lab will provide students with advanced IT facilities and digital learning opportunities. The Tareen Education Foundation is currently working on several educational initiatives across Lodhran, Khanewal, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Lahore and other cities to ensure access to modern IT education for students.

Addressing the ceremony, Jahangir Khan Tareen said: “When I saw the excitement and enthusiasm of the students working in the computer lab, it became a great source of happiness for me. Computerization is now a basic right for girls in today’s world. The education of female students is essential not only for their bright future but also for their economic empowerment.”

He further advised the students: “Your goal in life should be to complete every task you undertake with excellence, work hard consistently and achieve a higher position through your abilities and dedication. The overall progress of society depends upon education and economic development.”

Jahangir Khan Tareen further stated: “If high-performing students secure admission to international universities, the Tareen Education Foundation will provide them with guidance, support and possible facilitation so that talented young people can represent Pakistan proudly on the global stage.”

Speaking about his ancestral roots, he said: “Our ancestors migrated from Balochistan and later settled in Multan. I have always wished to contribute to the area from where our elders began their journey. Unfortunately, even today, basic educational facilities and infrastructure are lacking there. Therefore, we have decided to construct a dedicated educational building in Balochistan so that children can study in a better environment and benefit from modern facilities such as computer labs.”

Group Director Finance JDW Muhammad Rafiq, while addressing the event said: “I have been associated with Jahangir Tareen since 1991 and have learned a great deal from him. A major part of my practical learning and professional development became possible through working alongside him. Our economy and industries are agriculture-based and while agriculture is his passion, education is equally among his top priorities.”

He further added: “The establishment of the Tareen Institute for Computer Education and Resources (TICER) in a remote area like Lodhran, at a cost of approximately PKR 2.5 billion, is a remarkable achievement. Whatever initiative Jahangir Tareen undertakes, he ensures it reaches the highest standards. He is not merely a wealthy individual; the respect he has earned through public service is far greater than wealth.”

Chief Executive Officer of Tareen Education Foundation Akbar Khan gave a detailed briefing on the Foundation’s educational initiatives and ongoing projects.

DPI Colleges Punjab Ansar Azhar thanked Jahangir Khan Tareen and the Tareen Education Foundation, stating:

“It is a matter of great pleasure for us that our students are receiving access to such modern facilities, which will further enhance their academic and technical capabilities.”
