Gwadar University top officials go missing on way to Quetta

Published on: May 14, 2026 3:45 PM

Two senior officials of the University of Gwadar have reportedly gone missing while travelling from Gwadar to Quetta, prompting authorities to launch search efforts in Balochistan.

According to officials, University of Gwadar Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir and Pro-Vice Chancellor Syed Manzoor Ahmed left Gwadar for Quetta on Wednesday morning along with a driver and another university employee. However, the group failed to reach their destination, raising concerns among officials and family members.

Authorities said contact with the travellers was lost after they passed through Mastung. Their mobile phones were reportedly switched off soon afterwards, making it difficult for law enforcement agencies to trace their exact location.

Officials from the Balochistan Home Department confirmed that all available resources are being used to locate the missing individuals. Search efforts involving local administration, police and security personnel are currently under way.

Police sources in Mastung said the last known communication from the group came while they were travelling on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway near the Khud-Kocha area. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of kidnapping, although no official confirmation has been made so far.

The disappearance of senior academic officials has sparked concern in the province, particularly given Balochistan’s history of security incidents and enforced disappearance allegations. Authorities have urged patience as search teams continue operations in the area.

The University of Gwadar has not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding the incident, but concern is growing within academic circles over the safety of university staff travelling across remote routes in the province.

Officials say investigations are ongoing and further details will be shared once new information emerges. Families of the missing individuals are awaiting updates as authorities intensify efforts to trace the group.

The incident adds to ongoing security concerns on highways linking major cities in Balochistan, where travellers have previously faced threats ranging from armed attacks to abductions.
