
Thousands of supporters gathered in Tehran at Enghelab Square to show their backing for Iran’s national football team ahead of its departure for the FIFA World Cup, in a large public demonstration of national support.
According to international media reports, the rally took place a week before the team is scheduled to travel for the global tournament. Fans filled the square, chanting slogans in support of the squad and praying for their success on the international stage.

The event reflected strong public enthusiasm, with participants expressing hopes that the national team would perform strongly and represent Iran with pride at the World Cup.
During the gathering, Iran’s national football team also met with President Masoud Pezeshkian. The players presented him with a jersey bearing the number 12, symbolising the support of fans often referred to as the “12th player” on the field.

President Pezeshkian addressed the team and urged them to give their full effort in the tournament, saying the Iranian people were praying for their success and expecting them to compete with strength and determination.
He added that the team should aim to become a symbol of national unity and pride, stressing that citizens across the country were proud of their athletes and standing behind them.
Separately, the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards aerospace division also expressed support for the national squad, stating that the entire nation would stand behind the team at every stage of the competition.
Iran’s football federation has confirmed the country’s participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Iran is scheduled to play its opening match against New Zealand on June 15 in Los Angeles.
