Pakistan struggle in 268-run chase against Bangladesh

Bangladesh set 268-run target for Pakistan in thrilling Mirpur Tes

Pakistan faced mounting pressure on the final day of the Dhaka Test as the team lost five wickets while chasing a target of 268 runs against Bangladesh.

At 121 for five, Pakistan found themselves in serious trouble with Bangladesh’s bowlers dominating the contest in Mirpur and pushing the visitors closer to defeat.

Pakistan’s chase got off to a poor start, losing their first wicket at just three runs. The early setback was followed by another blow when Azan Awais was dismissed after scoring 15 runs.

Captain Shan Masood was unable to provide stability and departed for just two runs, further increasing pressure on the batting side.

Abdullah Fazal offered some resistance with a fighting 66-run knock, but his dismissal added to Pakistan’s difficulties. Salman Agha also contributed 26 runs before being sent back to the pavilion.

Bangladesh had earlier declared their second innings at 240 for nine on the fifth morning, setting Pakistan a challenging target of 268 runs to win the match.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with 87 runs, while Mominul Haque added a valuable 56 in the second innings.

Pakistan’s bowlers had managed to restrict the hosts through disciplined spells. Hasan Ali and Noman Ali claimed three wickets each, while Shaheen Afridi took two wickets and Mohammad Abbas picked up one.

The match also marked a personal milestone for Noman Ali, who completed 100 wickets in Test cricket during the innings.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first. Bangladesh posted 413 runs in their opening innings, building an important first-innings lead. Pakistan responded with 386 runs in their first innings but fell short of matching the hosts’ total.

With wickets falling regularly in the final innings, Pakistan now face a tense finish as Bangladesh push for a home victory.

The outcome of the Test remains uncertain, but the hosts currently hold the advantage heading into the final phase of play.
