Punjab government has announced fresh relief measures for motorcycle owners

Published on: May 12, 2026 11:00 AM

The Punjab government has announced fresh relief measures for motorcycle owners, offering financial ease through the removal of transfer fees and additional subsidies aimed at reducing fuel costs for commuters.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz shared the announcement on social media, stating that the transfer fee for motorcycles up to 150cc has been completely abolished as part of broader efforts to ease the burden of rising fuel expenses.

The decision is part of a wider relief package introduced in April–May 2026, which focuses on providing economic support to the public while improving transport affordability and road safety.

Under the new measures, registered motorcycle owners will also receive a petrol subsidy of up to 20 litres per month at a reduced rate of Rs100 per litre. The initiative is designed to help daily commuters cope with fluctuating fuel price

In addition to fuel relief, the government has waived several administrative charges for a limited period. From April 6 to May 5, 2026, motorcycle owners were exempted from transfer fees of Rs605, additional registration mark fees of Rs1,000, and smart card fees of Rs1,300.

Officials said these steps are part of a targeted support programme aimed at easing transportation costs for low and middle-income citizens who rely heavily on motorcycles for daily travel.

To access the subsidy, citizens can apply through the “Maryam Ki Beti” mobile application, call the government helpline 1000, or submit requests via the official online portal.

The provincial government has indicated that further reforms in transport subsidies and registration systems may be introduced depending on public response and fiscal space.

The announcement has been widely welcomed by commuters, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas where motorcycles remain the most affordable and commonly used mode of transport.

Authorities say the measures reflect the government’s focus on providing direct relief to citizens while maintaining efficiency in administrative processes.
