The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered the return of Rs 70 million deposited as guarantee money by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills Case.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition. Advocate Javed Arshad represented Maryam Nawaz, while Deputy Attorney General Rafaqat Dogar and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Fatima Shahid appeared before the court.
During the hearing, NAB’s counsel submitted an affidavit regarding the withdrawal of the petition from the constitutional court. Subsequently, the bench approved Maryam Nawaz’s petition and directed authorities to return the Rs70 million deposited in the case.
According to the petition, the amount had been deposited as a guarantee in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The petitioner argued that since NAB had closed the case, the amount deposited with the high court should be returned.
