Dua Lipa sues tech giant for alleged image misuse

Published on: May 10, 2026 4:56 PM

Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against a global technology company, accusing it of copyright infringement, trademark violations, and unauthorized commercial use of her image. The legal action claims the company used her likeness in a marketing campaign without permission or compensation. Moreover, the case highlights growing concerns over image rights in digital advertising.

According to court filings, the singer alleges that her photograph was used on television packaging as part of a large-scale promotional campaign without her knowledge or approval. The image reportedly came from her 2024 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival and was later used to market consumer electronics. Consequently, her legal team argues that the usage misled consumers into believing she endorsed the product.

The lawsuit further states that the singer owns the copyright to the image and had not granted any commercial licensing rights to the company. After discovering the alleged misuse, her representatives contacted the firm requesting immediate removal of the material. However, the complaint claims that the company refused to comply with the request, escalating the dispute into legal proceedings.

Dua Lipa’s legal team argues that the unauthorized use of her image damaged her carefully managed public brand, which is known for selective endorsements and high commercial standards. The case also alleges that the marketing created a false impression of endorsement, potentially influencing consumer purchasing decisions. Therefore, the lawsuit includes claims under copyright, trademark, and publicity rights laws.

Evidence presented in the filing includes consumer reactions on social media, where some users reportedly stated they purchased televisions after seeing the singer’s image on product packaging. This, according to the complaint, demonstrates the commercial impact of the alleged misuse. In addition, the legal team argues that such actions unfairly benefited the company financially.

The case is now set to proceed under multiple legal claims, with potential implications for advertising practices involving celebrity images and digital marketing rights. Analysts say the outcome could influence how companies use public figures in future promotional campaigns. As a result, the lawsuit has drawn significant attention in both the entertainment and technology sectors.
