In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump said the US naval vessels passed through the strategic waterway without sustaining any damage, even though Iran allegedly launched missiles and drones targeting the ships.
According to Trump, the missiles fired at the destroyers were intercepted, while drones sent toward the vessels were also neutralised before reaching their targets. He further claimed that several small Iranian boats involved in the incident were destroyed during the encounter.
Trump stated that although the US vessels came under attack, American forces responded effectively and avoided casualties or material damage. He added that Iranian drones “fell into the sea” after being shot down by US defenses.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime routes, carrying a major share of global oil shipments. Any military confrontation in the area is closely watched by international markets and governments due to its implications for regional stability and energy security.
In his remarks, Trump also sharply criticised Iran’s leadership, describing the country as unpredictable and accusing its authorities of escalating tensions in the region. He repeated his administration’s stance that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
Trump further warned Tehran to move quickly on a potential agreement with Washington, saying the US had taken a strong position and could increase pressure if no deal is reached.
Iran has not yet publicly responded to Trump’s claims regarding the reported naval confrontation or the alleged destruction of its vessels and drones.
The latest development comes amid already heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic and military activity in the Gulf region under close international scrutiny.
