Sindh High Court ordered the Sindh government to make Karachi’s University Road fully operational within two months. The court stressed that traffic flow on the road must remain uninterrupted. Therefore, the ruling aims to reduce public hardship caused by ongoing construction work.
The decision came during a hearing on a petition filed against the sealing of machinery and offices linked to the BRT Red Line Lot Two contractor. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court declared the action of sealing the contractor’s machinery illegal and unjustified.
The court stated that authorities are expected to complete and activate the BRT project by October 2027. However, it clearly directed officials to ensure that construction activities do not disrupt traffic on University Road. Consequently, the government must take immediate corrective measures.
The judges noted that Karachi residents continue to face serious difficulties because of the poor condition of University Road. In addition, the court ordered the government to ensure smooth movement of both public and private transport. It also allowed authorities to allocate additional funds if necessary.

The ruling further stated that if Trans Karachi requires machinery under contract clauses, it may approach the Dispute Resolution Board. Moreover, if the board fails to issue a decision within 30 days, the machinery will be returned to the petitioner after court verification.
The court also said the petitioner remains free to pursue legal action under the contract agreement. Finally, copies of the judgment were sent to the sindh chief secretary and local government secretary for implementation. As a result, the Sindh High Court’s order is expected to speed up efforts to fully restore Karachi’s University Road.
