Following speculation about a possible attack, Iran’s embassy in Seoul issued a statement strongly rejecting any suggestion that Iranian armed forces were behind the blast or fire onboard the ship.
The denial comes at a time of heightened regional tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil and gas exports. The waterway has remained under close international focus amid ongoing uncertainty linked to US-Iran tensions and concerns over maritime security.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said a potential agreement to end the conflict with Iran remained possible, though he also warned that Washington could resume military action if diplomatic efforts fail.
Recent negotiations between Washington and Tehran have fuelled hopes of easing tensions in the region, particularly after signals of progress in peace discussions emerged this week.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, handling a major share of global energy shipments. Any security incident in the passage typically raises concerns in global markets and shipping industries.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the fire aboard the vessel or whether foul play was involved. The condition of the crew has also not been widely detailed in initial reports.
