Russia has announced a temporary ceasefire on May 8–9 to mark Victory Day celebrations. The move was ordered by President Vladimir Putin and comes amid ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The decision has heightened diplomatic and military tensions in the region.
The Russian Defense Ministry warned that any Ukrainian attacks during the ceasefire would trigger a strong retaliatory response. It said Moscow would carry out large-scale strikes if Kyiv disrupted the holiday period. Authorities also urged civilians in Kyiv and foreign diplomats to leave the city.
