Christopher Nolan unveils first look at 'The Odyssey' | The Daily Star

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has released the first teaser look at his upcoming epic film The Odyssey, offering audiences a glimpse into his ambitious adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem.

The newly revealed trailer highlights Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus, showing him confronting the legendary Cyclops in a dramatic sequence that sets the tone for the mythological scale of the film. The footage also shifts between vast ocean journeys and tense political intrigue unfolding in Ithaca, where Robert Pattinson appears as Antinous, seemingly plotting to seize control in Odysseus’ absence.

The trailer introduces several other major characters from Greek mythology, including Charlize Theron as Circe, Zendaya as Athena, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Tom Holland as Telemachus. Each character is briefly shown in visually striking scenes that suggest a blend of myth, war, and emotional drama.

Nolan’s adaptation appears to focus not only on the legendary journey of Odysseus but also on the personal and political struggles waiting at home. The visuals emphasize large-scale sea voyages, dark royal courts, and looming battles, reflecting the director’s signature style of combining spectacle with character-driven storytelling.

The Odyssey marks Nolan’s 13th feature film and follows the global success of Oppenheimer, which earned nearly $959 million worldwide and won multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

The film is also set to make cinematic history as the first narrative feature shot entirely using IMAX cameras, further expanding Nolan’s reputation for pushing technical boundaries in filmmaking.

Produced by Universal Pictures, The Odyssey is scheduled for release on July 17. It will debut alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day, setting up a major box office competition for one of the most anticipated summer release windows in recent years.
