Television footage and social media videos showed thick plumes of smoke rising into the sky from the industrial site, along with extensive structural damage and debris scattered across the facility. Authorities confirmed that rescue operations were immediately launched following the incident.
Nearly 500 emergency personnel, supported by rescue robots, were deployed to the scene. Officials said teams were conducting coordinated search operations across the affected area to locate survivors and prevent further hazards.
State media reported that two black powder storage warehouses inside the factory compound posed additional safety risks, complicating rescue efforts. Authorities evacuated nearby residents and established a 1-kilometre emergency zone and a 3-kilometre controlled perimeter.
The company’s site was sealed off as investigations began. Local reports said the person in charge of the factory had been detained, and officials are working to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered a swift investigation and called for strict accountability, according to state broadcaster CCTV. He also urged stronger risk inspections and improved safety measures across high-risk industries.
