Punjab Police ensure strict security for churches

Published on: May 4, 2026 12:37 AM

Punjab Police Officers and personnel performed their security duties while remaining on high alert during Christian worship prayer programs in churches across the province including Lahore.

Earlier, Inspector General Police Punjab Abdul Kareem issued instructions to RPOs and DPOs to enhance security of churches. He said that supervisory officers should personally check the security arrangements of churches and important locations.

Additional police personnel and snipers should be deployed at sensitive churches, while teams of Dolphin Squad, PRU and Elite Force should ensure effective patrolling around churches.

IG Punjab directed that deployed police officers and personnel should remain highly alert and keep a strict watch on miscreants. Search and sweep operations should also be continued around churches, Christian localities and sensitive places.

Abdul Kareem said that religious scholars, the Christian community and members of peace committees should promote interfaith harmony.

Punjab Police have made stringent security arrangements for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 final match, held at Gaddafi Stadium, ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for players, officials, and cricket fans.

The final, played between Hyderabad Kingsmen and Peshawar Zalmi, witnessed the deployment of more than 7,000 police officers and personnel who performed security duties across the city.

On the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem, foolproof security arrangements were put in place, with supervisory officers personally overseeing security and traffic management plans. Police personnel remained on high alert at all duty points, maintaining vigilance against any suspicious activity.

The IG Punjab said that close coordination was ensured with the district administration, security agencies, and other relevant departments for the smooth conduct of the high-profile sporting event. Special teams, including Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force, carried out effective patrolling along team routes and in the surroundings of the stadium.

He further said that comprehensive search, sweep, and combing operations, along with intelligence-based measures, were conducted around team residences, routes, and the stadium. CCTV surveillance remained active at all key locations, while police snipers were deployed on high-rise buildings to further strengthen security.

Traffic advisories were also issued to facilitate citizens and maintain smooth vehicular flow in the city. Cricket fans enjoyed the match in a peaceful atmosphere while cooperating with law enforcement agencies.

IG Punjab Abdul Kareem commended the efforts of the police force for ensuring a secure environment and successful conduct of the PSL final.
