Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Friday visited the riverine (Katcha) area of Rajanpur to review the ongoing police operation against criminals and assess the overall law and order situation.
Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi, along with senior police and district administration officers, accompanied the IGP during the visit.
According to spokesperson, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ghazi Khan Muhammad Azhar Akram briefed the IGP on the ongoing operation against criminals in the Katcha area and the current situation on ground.
The IGP visited Bahar Machhi police post established in Katcha Circle Rojhan, where he reviewed security arrangements, deployment of personnel, weapons and ammunition as well as the monitoring mechanism through thermal drone cameras. He also inspected the surrounding areas using drone surveillance.
Abdul Kareem met officers and personnel deployed at the check post, appreciated their morale and dedication and also shared a meal with them.
Later, the IGP and Home secretary chaired an important meeting to review the current situation in the Katcha area. Members of the National Assembly Shamsher Khan Mazari and Dr Hafeez-ur-Rehman Khan Drishak, and Member of the Provincial Assembly Khizar Khan Mazari also attended. The meeting also reviewed ongoing and proposed development initiatives in the riverine areas.
The IGP directed the RPO DG Khan to take effective measures for the welfare of personnel deployed in the Katcha area. He said that under the courageous leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Katcha operation has achieved significant success, adding that the visit was aimed at reviewing the current situation and future operational strategy.
Abdul Kareem said that the successful operation has marked the beginning of a new era of peace and stability in the area. He added that the Punjab government has announced a special relief package for education, health and infrastructure development in the region.
He said that those who surrender will be treated in accordance with the law, ensuring no injustice, while those challenging the writ of the state and refusing to lay down arms will be dealt with strictly.
The IGP reiterated that in line with the CM’s vision, the Katcha area will be transformed into a cradle of peace.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Friday paid tribute to the dignity and contributions of workers on the occasion of International Labour Day.
In his message, he saluted the invaluable services of labourers and appreciated their vital role in national development as well as in promoting economic and business activities.
He said that under the labour-friendly vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the protection of the working class remains a top priority.
The IGP said that Punjab Police will provide full security for rallies and other events being held across the province in connection with Labour Day. He reiterated that there is zero tolerance for exploitation and violence against workers and domestic employees.
Abdul Kareem added that Punjab Police is extending full cooperation to relevant departments for the elimination of child labour and forced labour.
