NAB transfers amenity land worth Rs66bn to CDA

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Islamabad/Rawalpindi has completed the transfer of approximately 6,500 kanals of amenity and public utility land from private housing societies to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), according to an official statement.

The transfer is aimed at addressing long-standing regulatory and compliance issues related to delayed handovers and the alleged misuse of land designated for public welfare purposes in housing projects.

According to NAB, the transfer process was finalised under the supervision of Director General NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi Waqar Ahmed Chauhan following a high-level meeting held last week to expedite the handover of amenity land under legal and regulatory provisions.

In the first phase, 5,484.76 kanals of amenity land in Gulberg Residencia and 999 kanals in Margalla View D-17 were formally transferred to the CDA. A registration ceremony was held at NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi to mark the completion of the process.

Officials said the total value of the transferred land is estimated at approximately Rs41 billion based on Deputy Commissioner rates, while the public utility component has a market value of nearly Rs25.43 billion. Combined, the secured land transferred to the CDA is valued at around Rs66 billion.

NAB further stated that an additional 4,500 kanals from other housing societies are expected to be transferred in the coming weeks. Around 4,793 kanals across multiple societies have already been mutated in favour of the regulator.

The bureau also highlighted progress in resolving older cases, including the Civil Employees Housing Society matter, which had reportedly remained pending for nearly 31 years.

Separately, NAB Chairman retired Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed met Federal Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada to discuss reforms in public housing asset management.

During the meeting, officials reviewed estate properties and ongoing legal disputes affecting government-owned housing units, with discussions focused on improving transparency, asset utilisation, and preventing future maladministration.
