Lahore court grants interim pre-arrest bail to PM's daughter, son-in-law in Saaf Pani case

LAHORE: An anti-corruption court in Lahore on Thursday granted interim pre-arrest bail to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s daughter Rabia Imran and her husband Ali Imran Yousaf in a case related to alleged irregularities in the Punjab Saaf Pani Company (PSPC).

The hearing was conducted by Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich at the anti-corruption court, where both accused appeared in person along with their legal counsel. After reviewing initial arguments, the court approved their bail petitions and directed the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to submit its response at the next hearing scheduled for May 4.

According to the case record, the couple had previously been declared proclaimed offenders due to their absence from proceedings while they were reportedly abroad. They later approached the court and surrendered before legal proceedings resumed, after which their arrest warrants were suspended by a lower accountability court.

The case was subsequently transferred to the anti-corruption court following amendments in the National Accountability Ordinance, which led to a change in jurisdiction.

The allegations against Rabia Imran and Ali Imran Yousaf include claims of receiving illegal financial benefits through the rental of a building to PSPC for use as its office. Investigators have also examined related financial transactions and administrative approvals linked to the arrangement.

Other individuals named in the broader investigation, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and several senior bureaucrats, have already been acquitted in the matter.

The Saaf Pani case originates from a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) inquiry launched in 2017 into multiple public-sector companies established in Punjab. These entities were accused of procedural violations, irregular recruitment, nepotism, and delays in project execution.

Separately, the couple has also obtained interim pre-arrest bail in another money laundering case from a special court, with proceedings ongoing until May 7.
