Ranveer Singh stepped away from film Don 3 amid creative differences with Farhan Akhtar

The Ugly Spat Between Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar for Don 3: Timeline Explained

Actor Ranveer Singh reportedly stepped away from the upcoming film Don 3 following creative differences with filmmaker Farhan Akhtar over the direction and tone of the project.

According to media reports, disagreements emerged over Ranveer Singh’s vision for the film, with the actor allegedly favouring a darker and more intense portrayal of the iconic character. Reports claimed he wanted the film to incorporate stronger language and a more violent tone to align with changing audience preferences and recent action trends.

However, Farhan Akhtar reportedly did not agree with altering the core identity of the Don franchise. Sources said the filmmaker remained committed to his original vision for the project and believed the franchise’s appeal had never depended on explicit language or excessive violence.

In a recent interview, Farhan Akhtar commented broadly on the unpredictability of filmmaking, saying that nothing can be taken for granted until it is fully materialised on screen.

Industry reports suggest that discussions between the actor and production team continued for some time before both sides decided to part ways. Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 was first reported in 2025 after speculation surrounding script concerns, scheduling issues, and production delays.

Additional reports had suggested that Excel Entertainment was seeking financial compensation linked to pre-production work, project planning, and scheduling disruptions allegedly caused by the actor’s departure.

Media outlets later reported that the matter was resolved through a financial settlement, bringing an end to the dispute. The Don franchise remains one of Bollywood’s most recognizable action series, first popularised by Amitabh Bachchan and later reimagined by Shah Rukh Khan in Farhan Akhtar’s rebooted versions.

The reported disagreement highlights the challenges that can arise when balancing franchise legacy with evolving cinematic trends and audience expectations. No official announcement has yet been made regarding the revised cast or production timeline for Don 3 following Ranveer Singh’s departure. Fans continue to await further updates on the future of the film and the next lead actor attached to the project.
