Pakistan has issued a heatwave alert as temperatures are set to rise in southern regions from April 29 to May 3. The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that mild heatwave conditions may affect several areas during this period.
According to officials, western weather systems will influence upper parts of the country between April 27–29 and again from May 3–5. As a result, temperatures in northern regions may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, offering temporary relief.
The report also highlighted the possible return of El Niño conditions between May and July. This natural climate pattern increases sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean and affects global wind, pressure, and rainfall systems.

Officials noted that El Niño played a major role in making 2023 the second warmest year and 2024 the hottest year on record. Moreover, they warned that rising temperatures could continue to impact weather patterns across the region.
Authorities stated that May and June are usually the hottest months in Pakistan. Therefore, southern Punjab, upper Sindh, and parts of Balochistan may face extreme heat, with temperatures sometimes reaching 52°C, reinforcing the heatwave alert as temperatures set to rise.
